Consumer protection
Small sums, taken from very many people, are the characteristic modern consumer harm.
A charge of £1.80 is not worth an individual claim and both sides know it. Collective procedure is the only mechanism that makes the term enforceable in practice, whether the vehicle is a representative action, a consumer body claim or a coordinated arbitration programme.
The firm's consumer work concentrates on charges that were disclosed poorly or not at all: fee stacking, default pricing, automatic renewals and currency conversion spreads.

From the firm

PayWave customers could be owed compensation following alleged unlawful arbitration practices
Between November 2021 and February 2025, PayWave charged instant-transfer and currency-conversion fees above the rates it published. A class action is barred by the contract. An individual arbitration is not.

Understanding mass arbitration
A procedure that exists because of a contractual term, not in spite of one. How individual demands filed in volume came to be the principal route to consumer redress in the United States.
