Philosophy

A boutique is a choice, not a stage.

Most firms bringing collective claims are departments of much larger organisations, where this work competes internally for the resources it needs. We are eleven partners and forty-two other people, and there is nothing else here to compete with.

The consequence is selection. We take on two or three new actions a year, each assessed against the same three questions: can the loss be proved across the class, can the action be funded to trial without compromise, and can the claimants be kept properly informed for the years that will take.

If the answer to any of them is no, we say so and decline.

We would rather run eleven actions well than thirty badly. The claimants in the thirty would agree.

How we work

Six commitments, tested against every action

These are the standards a claimant is entitled to hold us to, and the ones we apply when deciding whether to take a claim on.

01 Boutique by design Eleven partners, one discipline. Every action is signed off by the partner who runs it, and no action is taken on that the firm cannot resource to judgment.
02 Cross-border from the outset The same conduct rarely harms one country alone. We test each set of facts against the English, US and EU regimes before choosing where a claim belongs.
03 Claimant-first Registering commits a claimant to nothing. No fee is payable unless the claim recovers damages, and every deduction is set out before a claimant signs.
04 Technology-enabled Eligibility, onboarding, evidence and distribution run on one record. A claimant sees the same status the case team sees, on the day it changes.
05 Funded properly We work with a small number of institutional funders on terms disclosed to the tribunal and to the class, and we do not run books we cannot fund to trial.
06 Procedure is the case Certification, class definition and the funding position decide most collective claims. We prepare them first and argue them ourselves.

Working on a book of claims?

We act as lead firm, as co-counsel and as claims administrator for other practices, funders and consumer bodies. The platform this site demonstrates is available on that basis too.
